Everybody Knows Millennials and Gen Z, but Have You Heard About the 'Odyssey Years'? - Finding Your Way Through the Wandering
May 25, 2026

Lately, a concept has been resonating deeply with many young adults: the "Odyssey Years."
If you find yourself somewhere between the ages of 20 and 35, you are likely in the thick of it. The Odyssey Years represent that long, winding stretch between the end of adolescence and the traditional "settling down" of adulthood. It is a period defined by wandering, constant growth, and the relentless pursuit of answers in a world of uncertainty.
The term draws its name from Homer’s ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey. It tells the story of Odysseus and his ten-year journey home - a voyage filled with adventure, peril, and profound personal transformation. Much like Odysseus, many of us today are on our own long-term "drift," trying to find our place in the world while navigating storms we never saw coming.
The Weight of the Journey
Whether it’s moving across oceans to start a new life in an unfamiliar city, or the exhaustion of sending out hundreds of resumes only to be met with silence, the Odyssey Years are a test of endurance. We feel the heavy weight of parental expectations, the invisible yet crushing pressure of peer competition, and the internal struggle to define who we are.
In these moments, we are warriors. We grip our "spears and shields" tightly, fighting silent battles every day to claim our own lives.
Even Mo Yan, the Nobel Prize laureate in Literature, reflected on this during a conversation with young people:
"I think life isn't something where you reach a certain stage and suddenly everything is settled, and you can live without any worries. Even at my age, I still face many perplexities, especially in my writing. I am always trying every possible way to write something different from my past work."
You Are Already a Conqueror
Perhaps you’ve had those days where you return to a dark, quiet home after a long day of work or study, collapsing onto your sofa and wondering: Is all this effort actually leading me to the shores of my dreams?
In those moments of doubt, we invite you to look back at how far you’ve already come.
Think of the "unpredictables" you’ve already navigated. Think of the times you rescued yourself from what felt like impossible situations. While it may seem like everyone around you is collecting accolades or hitting traditional milestones, no matter if they are marriage, houses or stable careers, remember that those are their journeys.
Your path is built stone by stone by your own hands. That is something to be immensely proud of.
